Recycling Options in Fort Worth & DFW

Where to recycle electronics, hazardous waste, appliances, tires, and more across the DFW area — plus what goes straight in your dumpster.

♻️

Most of your cleanout can go straight in a dumpster

Furniture, construction debris, metal, wood, carpet, appliances (except Freon units) — it all goes in our roll-off dumpsters. We sort and divert recyclable material at our facility. This guide covers the exceptions — items that require special handling or have better recycling options.

Where to Recycle Specific Items in DFW

🖥️ Electronics & E-Waste

  • City of Fort Worth e-waste drop-off events (scheduled quarterly)
  • Best Buy store drop-off — accepts most consumer electronics
  • Staples — computers, laptops, monitors, phones
  • Free Geek (non-profit): refurbishes and recycles PCs

Dumpster note: Do not put electronics in a standard dumpster. Small quantities can go in roll-off dumpsters, but check with us first for large commercial quantities.

🔋 Batteries

  • Auto Zone and O'Reilly Auto Parts — car/truck batteries (free)
  • Call2Recycle drop-offs at Home Depot and Lowe's — rechargeable batteries
  • Best Buy — lithium-ion and other batteries

Dumpster note: Never put batteries in a dumpster — they are a fire hazard and are prohibited.

🧪 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

  • Fort Worth HHW Facility: 6400 Bridge St, Fort Worth, TX — free for residents
  • Accepts: paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, motor oil, propane tanks
  • Tarrant County HHW events: check tarrantcounty.com for dates

Dumpster note: Hazardous chemicals, motor oil, paint, and pool chemicals cannot go in any dumpster.

🛞 Tires

  • Most tire shops accept old tires with a new purchase (often free)
  • Discount Tire, Firestone, Walmart Auto — take tires for a small fee
  • Fort Worth transfer station accepts tires (fee applies)

Dumpster note: Tires are not accepted in dumpsters — no exceptions.

❄️ Appliances with Freon (Refrigerators, Freezers, AC)

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts working appliances
  • City of Fort Worth bulk pickup — call 817-392-1234 to schedule
  • Appliance recyclers will pick up for free or small fee

Dumpster note: Fridges, freezers, and AC units must have Freon professionally removed before going in a dumpster. Contact us and we can refer you to a certified technician.

🪟 Metal & Scrap

  • DFW scrap yards: Southwest Metal Recycling, Sims Metal — pay per lb
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts metal building materials
  • Most metals are fine in our dumpsters — copper, steel, aluminum all accepted

Dumpster note: Metal is generally welcome in roll-off dumpsters. Scrap dealers can often pay you for large quantities of clean metal.

📦 Cardboard & Paper

  • Curbside recycling bins (blue cart) — most Tarrant County cities
  • Republic Services and Allied Waste commercial cardboard pickup
  • Local recycling drop-off centers throughout Fort Worth

Dumpster note: Cardboard and paper are fine in dumpsters but can often be diverted to recycling at no cost — which can reduce your load weight.

🌿 Yard Waste & Brush

  • Fort Worth residential brush pickup — schedule at fortworthtexas.gov
  • Tarrant County composting facilities
  • Yard waste, brush, and tree debris accepted in our dumpsters

Dumpster note: We accept yard waste and brush in roll-off dumpsters — great for large tree trimming or landscaping projects.
