What Can Go in a Dumpster?

Allowed and prohibited items for roll-off and front-load dumpsters in the DFW area. Know before you fill — avoid fees, delays, and hazardous materials violations.

Items You CAN Put in a Dumpster

Household Junk & Furniture

  • Sofas, chairs, mattresses
  • Tables, dressers, bookshelves
  • Appliances (see note below)
  • Rugs and carpeting
  • Clothing and linens
  • Toys and sporting goods

Construction & Renovation Debris

  • Drywall / sheetrock
  • Wood framing and lumber
  • Flooring — tile, hardwood, laminate
  • Roofing shingles
  • Brick, block, and pavers (check weight limits)
  • Windows and doors
  • Metal framing and pipes
  • Insulation (non-asbestos)

Yard & Landscaping Waste

  • Tree branches and limbs
  • Leaves and grass clippings
  • Brush and shrubs
  • Sod and dirt (check weight limits)
  • Fencing (wood, chain-link)

Office & Commercial Waste

  • Office furniture and partitions
  • Shelving units and displays
  • Cardboard and packaging
  • Paper and files (non-sensitive)
  • Computers and electronics (check e-waste rules)

Concrete & Masonry

  • Concrete slabs and chunks
  • Asphalt and blacktop
  • Cinder blocks
  • Note: heavy material often requires a dedicated load — ask us about weight caps

Items You CANNOT Put in a Dumpster

The following items are prohibited by state and federal law, or by our hauling agreements. Placing these in a dumpster can result in additional fees, load refusal, or legal liability.

Hazardous chemicals

Paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaning fluids

Motor oil & automotive fluids

Engine oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid

Propane tanks & gas cylinders

Even empty tanks require special disposal

Batteries

Car batteries, lithium-ion, large industrial batteries

Asbestos-containing materials

Old floor tiles, pipe insulation, some roof coatings

Medical / biohazard waste

Sharps, medical equipment, bodily fluids

Tires

Passenger, truck, and heavy-equipment tires

Freon-containing appliances

Refrigerators, freezers, AC units — unless freon is professionally purged first

Flammables & explosives

Gasoline, kerosene, fireworks, ammunition

Railroad ties & treated lumber (some)

Creosote-treated wood may require special handling; ask us
